What if the random rib cages found in the nether are a point to the giant zombies from classic minecrafts hardmode, but they died out, which would explain the ribs and the sudden deletion of the big boys.

Giant zombies spawn with tattered clothing, and has a normal zombie moaning sound, but can be heard far, far away. The giant can only be found in Exreme Hills, the Mesa (Badlands), and Deep Oceans, which the three would have the three variants of zombies. They would have >100 hitpoints and can almost kill a player that has no protection, they can also fling players who were hit by the giant. Plus, they are able to stomp out torches, extinguishing their flames, needing flint and steel to relight. They would be almost like/is a boss mob. They can burn in light (except Mesa/Badlands/Husk varient) but they would take a very long time to die.
