Do all of them have chests

I was above the nether bedrock ceiling when I died from the TNT explosion attempting to break the bedrock. My loot dropped and I feel like my friend picked up the loot, however, I'm not sure if this is a thing in the game where the items dropped despawned as it was above the nether bedrock ceiling. can someone help me as to if loot dropped above the nether bedrock ceiling despawns straight away?
