Silverfish

I have recently started a new world on PE and was strip mining for diamonds at y = 11. I found that some stone blocks took longer to break and a silverfish spawned from it. And it just died after 2-3 secs on its own. This happened quite a few times (about 4-5). I think silverfish generally spawns in the stronghold. Could this be a sign that I dug under the stronghold or is it some bug or feature that I don't know of.

P.S. - I don't have a screenshot atm, but will try to mine in that general area to find some more blocks like that and gather evidence. S

When I was in creative mode, I was making a dungeon in a super flat world. One room had a trapped chest in it, and upon opening, a silverfish fell out from above a trapdoor in the ceiling. But when I placed the silverfish, it vanished into white particles without the death or even going red animation. But when I finally got it to stay without disappearing, I tried out the contraption. It worked, and the silverfish came dropping down from the ceiling. But when I attacked it so that I could replace it, lots more came out from the stone either side of the trapdoor!!! So my theory is, when the silverfish have nothing to be hostile to, they “hibernate” in the stone to their x-axis until their resting place is broken.

Has anybody else experienced this? Also I made a preset where instead of grass on the top layer, it is stone.

I know there are multiple per world, but do they have a use? Should I try to keep them even though they are difficult to disable and can overcrowd you?

Edit: Even with placing torches everywhere on the walls, it doesn't turn off the spawner, The air blocks have to be over light level 12 for them to not spawn, this means every single block in the room has to have a light level over 12!

Final edit: Thank you for all the responses! I'm going to remove that stupid spawner now.

I am creating a mob zoo, and the Silverfish exhibit has cobblestone which they can infest, so I want to know, can more than one Silverfish infest the same block?
