In terms of the URL: everything is moving to Fandom. For all wikis on both Fandom and Gamepedia, the URL will eventually be [name].fandom.com (except for the few that are on wikia.org). In terms of the software and the appearance: what Zacatero said is true. All wikis on both Fandom and Gamepedia will be on a new software, so none of the wikis will look exactly the way that they look right now.
Would any of you like to elaborate on why we should or should not merge?
"The votes should be anonymous. Currently you can see exactly who voted for what."
Why?
To quote Sitb, another administrator:
"This is a Minecraft fan wiki and the discussions area is, naturally, intended for discussions related to Minecraft or the wiki itself. Because this wiki's discussions area is so heavily used, opening the floodgates and allowing all types of discussion to take place, whether Minecraft-related or not, would make moderation very difficult, and I'd argue that it would add nothing beneficial to this Minecraft fan community.
There are enough other places online to talk about random, off-topic things. In fact, there's an #off-topic channel in our wiki's Discord server that you are welcome to use for those types of Discussions."
Yes, we are aware that other wikis have off-topic categories and we do not. This is completely intentional.
"Some people might prefer one website to the other. I think people should be given a choice"
All of the wikis will be on the same website with the same appearance in less than six months.
"it is either us or them, one must pass away for one to live, there simply can't be two"
We've had two different wikis for about ten years; if we truly wanted to, we could go on for at least another ten while remaining separate.
"Merging in FANDOM is the act of moving content from one wiki to another wiki then deleting the moved content's wiki, it is just simply cannibalism"
Not true.
It was deleted yesterday, but Discussions takes some time to stop suggesting it as an article to read.
Please don't forget that the guidelines apply here.
If that's the case, then good is subjective. A lot of users on this wiki think that Discussions is good while a lot of users on minecraft.gamepedia.com dislike Discussions--and, since (according to another blog post) Discussions will be optional for Gamepedia wikis, their opinion on Discussions does matter.
There was a blog post where they said they would allow unmerged wikis to both remain open. I'm still trying to find it.
This wiki will be locked and become minecraft-archive.fandom.com if we merge. It will be unlocked and become minecraft-alt.fandom.com (or some other URL) if we don't merge. At the very least, that used to be true; is it still correct?
Most people find a wiki by going to Google and searching for whatever they're interested in (which leads them to a wiki), not by typing in the wiki URL or using the search feature on wikis.
"Maybe even the current Fandom admins can retain admin rights over there. Idk. But that is all only possible if y'all WILLINGLY do it."
That is something we have discussed on the Discord server (which was created about 16 months ago). This thread that we're currently writing in is only the latest reminder of this ongoing process (although, for many users, this will be the first time that they're hearing about the merger).
I was referring to something else when I said that: https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Minecraft_Wiki_talk:Community_portal#Enabling_discussions_on_the_wiki . I am aware that they will have the option to enable to Discussions (because, according to a blog post, it will be an option for Gamepedia wikis).
I'm a bit surprised by how many people voted Yes instead of No, seeing as how I said, "there is a high probability that you will NOT be able to use Discussions the way you use it now." Although, it's probably because most users didn't read the first reply before voting (which makes sense).
"my school has Gamepedia blockedi"
As I said earlier in this thread, this should be fixed within a month or so because minecraft.gamepedia.com will move to the fandom.com domain.
"I don't even edit this wiki"
Have you ever upvoted a post or responded to a poll on this wiki? I believe that either one of those actions can cause you to be notified in an Announcement. A mistake in the system by Fandom could also be responsible.
"By the way how did you mention everyone?"
It's an administrator-only feature called Announcements. You can tell it's an announcement because of the flag icon next to the notification (similar to how Discussions notifications have a chat bubble next to them). You can read more about it at Help:Announcements.
Those are good concerns, Headquarter8302. We actually have answers to those questions on the Discord server that I linked to above (and am currently linking to as well), so if you're interested in seeing what we've thought of so far, or if you want to contribute your own answers to those questions (and more), check out the Discord server.
