1.5,[1] the first release of the Redstone Update, was a major update for Minecraft: Java Edition, released on March 13, 2013.[2] This update saw the introduction of new redstone-related blocks – droppers, hoppers, and Daylight Sensors, to name a few – along with a new decorative Block of Quartz, a scoreboard system, a new texture pack format, and a lighting engine optimization.
