Amethyst Buds are an upcoming addition to caves in the 1.17 "Caves and Cliffs" update. They grow in four stages Small, Medium, Large, and then Amethyst Clusters, once mined these buds, they wont drop anything unless you have a Silk Touch Pickaxe.
They generate in amethyst geodes, and can only be mined with an iron, diamond, or netherite pickaxe, They also can be put on other blocks, but they wont grow unless they are replaced on a Budding Amethyst again.

Amethyst Buds, when placed on a Budding Amethyst, will grow overtime, going through three growth stages (small, medium, large) before reaching their fourth and final stage.
