Beetroots are a crop and dye ingredient added to Pocket Edition 0.8.0. and in Java Edition 1.9. They are grown like regular crops, and the growing process can be sped up by using Bone Meal on them.

Sources

Beetroot Seeds are obtained at a 116 chance by using a Hoe on Grass blocks, or often by destroying a fully-grown beetroot plant. Beetroot can be found in Village farms and in End City chests.

Uses

Beetroot seeds are used to grow beetroot plants. They drop about 1-3 beetroots. Beetroots are used to make red Dye, just like Red Mushrooms and Poppies . They can be eaten, although this only restores half a Hunger Point. They can also be made into Beetroot Soup. This restores 3 hunger points. This makes them pretty similar in usage to Mushrooms. Using beetroot on a Composter has a chance to raise its level by 1. Farmer Villagers have a chance to buy beetroot in exchange for Emeralds.
