For a list of iron-related objects in Minecraft, see Iron (Disambiguation).

Blocks of Iron (also known as Iron Blocks) are blocks used for storing iron ingots, and they are sometimes used for decoration as well. They do not appear naturally, but they can be crafted from 9 iron ingots. Iron blocks have the same texture on all of its six sides.

Overview[]

Iron blocks can be made by placing nine iron ingots in a crafting table. The nine ingots can be recovered by placing the block in a crafting grid. This makes iron blocks more functional as "storage units" than as building units. Iron blocks can be mined with a stone, iron, or diamond pickaxe, and they will take about two seconds to destroy. If an iron block is broken without said tools, it will drop nothing. The lines on its texture make it look corrugated. Iron blocks cannot burn down, which makes it a smart choice when building a house. However, it may be more difficult to accumulate an appreciable amount of Iron to make the blocks than it would be to accumulate an equal amount of wood.

Iron blocks are required to build an iron golem, which requires 4 iron blocks in the shape of a T and a pumpkin on top (the pumpkin must be placed last).

Trivia[]

  • The block of iron has had three different textures. In Minecraft Classic, it had a shadow on each face. In Minecraft Alpha, it changed to be a recolor of the texture of the block of gold and block of diamond. In the Beta 1.9 pre-release, stripes were added to the blocks' texture.
  • Before the Halloween Update, blocks of iron used to have a different texture.
  • Blocks of Iron, along with snow blocks and soul sand, are one of the blocks that can be used in creating utility mobs.
  • A note block placed on a block of iron will produce iron xylophone sounds.
