The Block of Quartz is a block added in 1.5 (13w01a) for the Java Edition and 0.6.0 for Pocket Edition that can be crafted from four pieces of Nether Quartz. A block of quartz currently has no use other than for decoration or building. It can be used as a white substitute to wool in construction because it will not burn.

Trivia[]
- Quartz was the only block that was in both PC and Pocket Edition, but not the Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition until later.
- It is similar to Sandstone and Stone Bricks because of its many varieties (chiseled, pillar, etc.).
- Unlike the Block of Iron, Block of Gold, Block of Diamond, Block of Redstone, and Block of Emerald, the block of quartz is crafted with four nether quartz instead of nine and cannot be crafted back into nether quartz.
- When building a "fort" or a "fortified building" with quartz, it is a good idea to have 2 layers of quartz due to its blast resistance only being 0.8.
- Smooth quartz and normal quartz blocks have almost exactly the same texture.
