Bone blocks can be found buried underground or found above ground in The Nether, clustered in patterns that combine to make a fossil structure, and in the 1.16 - Nether Update in The Nether they can be found above ground in the soul sand valleys. Each chunk has a 1 in 64 chance to generate a fossil and in the 1.16 - Nether Update nether fossil has a chance to generate. They may generate as one of four different variants of skull or one of four different variants of spine, and in the 1.16 - Nether Update in the soul sand valley’s that are in The Nether, Ribs and Ripcages can be found in fourteen different variants. Alternatively, bone blocks can be crafted using 9 bone meal (see below).

Trivia[]
- In snapshot 16w20a, bone blocks were actually transparent; however, this was fixed in snapshot 16w21a.
- As of update 1.12 (snapshot 17w17a), when a note block is placed on top of a bone block, it will make a xylophone sound.
