This guide details the basics of brewing in Minecraft.
Here are the materials needed to brew:

Brewing Stand	1 Blaze Rod 3 Cobblestone	Used to add ingredients into water bottles.
Cauldron	7 Iron Ingot	Each one can hold a bucket of water (after placement). Will fill 3 glass bottles.
Blaze Powder	1 Blaze Rod	Needed to fuel the brewing stand.[Java and Console editions]
Glass Bottle	3 Glass Blocks	Container for all kinds of potions.
Water Bottle	Simply fill a bottle with water	The starting base for all potions. Made by filling a glass bottle with water by using a cauldron or a water source.

Ingredients

Base Ingredients

Base ingredients are the first ingredients added to a water bottle in order to start the brewing process. The base ingredients are as follows:

Secondary Ingredients

Secondary ingredients imbue an awkward potion with a particular effect, but they do not alter the potion duration or intensity. When added directly to a water bottle, any of these ingredients will produce a mundane potion (with the exception of the golden carrot which can't be brewed into a water bottle to make a potion). The types of secondary ingredients are as follows:

Swiftness Potion

• Awkward Potion + Sugar = Swiftness Potion
• When Corrupted: Slowness Potion
• Effect: Swiftness

Leaping Potion

• Awkward Potion + Rabbit's Foot = Leaping Potion
• When Corrupted: Slowness Potion
• Effect: Jump Boost

Fire Resistance Potion

• Awkward Potion + Magma Cream = Fire Resistance Potion
• When Corrupted: None
• Effect: Fire Resistance

Instant Health Potion

• Awkward Potion + Glistering Melon = Healing Potion
• When Corrupted: Harming Potion
• Effect: Instant Health or Damage to Undead

Poison Potion

• Awkward Potion + Spider Eye = Poison Potion
• When Corrupted: Harming Potion
• Effect: Poison

Water Breathing Potion

• Awkward Potion + Pufferfish = Water Breathing Potion
• When Corrupted: None
• Effect: Water Breathing

Night Vision Potion

• Awkward Potion + Golden Carrot = Night Vision Potion
• When Corrupted: Invisibility Potion
• Effect: Night Vision

Strength Potion

• Awkward Potion + Blaze Powder = Strength Potion
• When Corrupted: Weakness Potion
• Effect: Strength

Regeneration Potion

• Awkward Potion + Ghast Tear = Regeneration Potion
• When Corrupted: Weakness Potion
• Effect: Regeneration

Invisibility Potion

• Potion of night vision + fermented spider eye=Potion of invisibility

Modifiers

Modifiers change the potion's properties. The "long duration" and "more potent" versions of a potion can be forever interchanged.
