For the craftable version of this block, see Beehive.

A bee nest is a naturally-occurring utility block, which can be found on trees.[1]

Uses[]

A bee nest allows bees to make honey, so bee mobs can therefore often be found near this block. Bees bring pollen from flowers to the nest, which gradually fills it with honey in increments of 1 to 5. At level 5, the nest will change texture and players are then able to collect honey. Collecting honey might be risky, as the bees around the nest will become aggressive. However, placing a campfire under the nest will make it safe to collect honey. Bee nests can be used to transport bees when broken with a silk touch tool. This will allow you to collect the bee nest as an item, and any bees inside will stay with the nest. You can then place it down elsewhere and the bees will leave the nest. The reason it's renewable is because of 1.15.2 when it was given a 5% chance of spawning on any birch or oak tree grown after the world generates. You can manipulate this like a standard tree farm, but with the added bonus of getting bee nests.

Mining[]

A Bee Nest can be mined with any tool or by hand, but an axe is the fastest. An axe enchanted with Silk Touch is required to harvest the block.

Trivia[]

  • At level 5, a bee nest appears to overflow and will drip honey, similar to blocks with water or lava above them.
  • The honey dripping is the recoloring of water particles.
