Dripstone caves is an upcoming biome, in the 1.17 - Caves and Cliffs update. It was announced at Minecraft Live on October 3, 2020. It is a vast expanse of lakes, stalactites, stalagmites, and large cliffs.

Overview[]

Dripstone caves are the largest cave-type biome. They contain huge rivers. The origin of the name is the large amount of dripstone. There are also speleothems, which fall when broken, and can deal damage to a mob when one falls on the other, sometimes lethal.

Trivia[]

  • This is the only biome that will spawn with stalagmites and stalactites.
  • As of 20w49a the biome has been added to the game, however it is currently only accessible via the one biome world generation type, and they are very small compared to what shown in the announcement of the Caves and Cliffs update.
