A wet sponge is a block very similar to the dry sponge, except it is saturated with water, and emits water droplets from the bottom. (If in the overworld or end)

Mechanics[]

When a dry sponge comes into contact with water, it will instantly absorb water blocks in all directions within a 7 block radius of the sponge. As soon as a dry sponge absorbs any amount of water, it is immediately converted into a wet sponge block.

Heating a wet sponge in a furnace or blast furnace will revert itself into its original dry state. Placing an empty bucket in the fuel slot of the furnace while smelting a wet sponge, will fill the bucket with the "evaporated" water (yielding one water bucket for each wet sponge). Wet sponges will also automatically dry themselves when placed in the Nether.

Sources[]

  • Can be harvested from the ceiling of a specific room inside an ocean monument. The room contains approximately 30 sponges, and the sponges do not require a tool to gather.
  • Dropped by elder guardians when killed (the dropped sponge can be either wet or dry).

Trivia[]

  • Both wet and dry sponges share the same breaking and placing sound effect with grass.
