Wolf jockeys are extremely rare hostile mobs. Like most other "jockey" mobs, they are only found in Minecraft: Pocket Edition. It consists of a baby zombie riding a wolf.
Behavior[]
The baby zombie is in control of the wolf, so these mobs are hostile towards players, and no actions can stop one from being hostile (outside Creative mode).
Strategy[]
Unlike some other jockeys, wolf jockeys have nothing which makes them particularly hard to deal with, besides having to deal with two mobs at once. The wolf doesn't have any special abilities. Therefore, almost any method used to kill regular mobs is sufficient, including swords, bows and crossbows, harming potions (for the wolf) and healing potions (for the baby zombie). A player who is fighting with a wolf jockey must ensure that they do not intentionally throw a healing potion at the wolf, as this will enhance the wolf's health levels, therefore making it a harder opponent to deal with. The healing potion must be carefully aimed and fired at the baby zombie in order to avoid healing the wolf; however, this is extremely difficult to accomplish.
Dog jockey[]
There is a slight chance that a baby zombie will start riding a tamed wolf, making it a dog jockey. The dog jockey won't chase players, but the baby zombie will still attack if they are in close proximity. Splash potions of healing are recommended because it will heal the wolf and kill the zombie. It is not recommended to take on a dog jockey with a sword due to the swords' sweep-attack nature. This could potentially lead to the dog's death. An Axe is an ideal weapon to deal with them, however.
Trivia[]
- Wolf jockeys originally spawned due to a bug but were later intentionally added to the game as part of update 0.14.0.
- If it is a normal wolf, the wolf has a 28.1% chance to be Hostile.
